Colossians reframes everything: 'whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord.' Suddenly there's no such thing as merely secular work. The spreadsheet, the diaper change, the shift that no one notices — all of it can be offered to God as worship when done with the right heart.
That doesn't make work easy, but it makes it meaningful. Paul promises that your 'labor is not in vain in the Lord.' Even when results are slow or unseen, faithful work matters to God and is never wasted in His economy.
Scripture also calls for diligence — doing what's in front of you 'with your might' — while committing the outcome to God. We work hard and trust the results to Him. Effort plus surrender is the rhythm of faithful labor.
Lord, help me to work as though I'm serving you, because I am. Give me diligence in my tasks and peace about the outcomes. Use even my ordinary labor for your purposes, and remind me it is not in vain. Amen.
