“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”
— James 1:2-4
“Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him. Don't fret because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who makes wicked plots happen.”
— Psalm 37:7
“Let's not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up.”
— Galatians 6:9
“rejoicing in hope; enduring in troubles; continuing steadfastly in prayer;”
— Romans 12:12
“Better is the end of a thing than its beginning. The patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit.”
— Ecclesiastes 7:8
James says something almost shocking: count it joy when trials come, because they're producing endurance in you. Patience isn't wasted time — it's the workshop where character is formed. God is rarely in the hurry we are, because He's growing something deeper than our comfort.
Psalm 37 pairs patience with rest: 'Rest in Yahweh, and wait patiently for him.' Waiting becomes bearable when we stop fretting over what we can't control and lean into the One who can. Patience is trust with its shoes off.
Galatians offers a gentle promise to the weary: don't give up, for there is a harvest 'in due season.' You may not see the fruit of your faithfulness yet. Keep doing good. The timing belongs to God, and His timing is never late.
Lord, teach me to wait on you without fretting. When I want to rush ahead, help me rest and trust your timing. Strengthen me to keep doing good, confident that you bring a harvest in due season. Amen.
