“Praise Yahweh, my soul, and don't forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,”
— Psalm 103:2-3
“For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh, because they have called you an outcast, saying, 'It is Zion, whom no man seeks after.'”
— Jeremiah 30:17
“But he was pierced for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought our peace was on him; and by his wounds we are healed.”
— Isaiah 53:5
“Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the assembly, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will heal him who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.”
— James 5:14-15
“He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds.”
— Psalm 147:3
The Psalmist lists healing among God's 'benefits,' right alongside forgiveness — a reminder that the God who pardons our sins also cares about our bodies and our brokenness. He is not indifferent to your suffering; healing flows from His very heart.
Scripture is honest that healing comes in different forms and timing. Sometimes it is physical and immediate; sometimes it is the slow mending of a heart; and ultimately it is the perfect restoration promised in eternity. In every form, it is God's work, and it is good.
James invites the sick to do something simple and bold: ask. Call for prayer. Bring your need into the open before God and His people. We don't pray because we've earned an answer, but because we trust a Father who heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds.
Lord, you are my healer. I bring you the places where I am hurting — in body, mind, and heart. Restore me according to your goodness, give me patience for your timing, and make me whole. Amen.
