Jesus makes prayer sound almost startlingly simple: ask, seek, knock. Prayer isn't reserved for the eloquent or the spiritual elite. It's a child speaking to a Father who delights to be asked. You don't need the right words — you just need to come.
'Pray without ceasing,' Paul writes. That doesn't mean staying on your knees all day; it means keeping a running conversation with God through ordinary life — a quick thank you, an honest cry for help, a whispered question in the car. Prayer becomes less an event and more a friendship.
And prayer is never shouting into the void. John assures us that when we ask according to His will, 'he listens to us.' God may answer differently than we expect and in timing we wouldn't choose, but He always hears. Bring Him what's on your heart today, and keep bringing it. The insistent prayer of an ordinary person is powerfully effective.
Father, thank you that I can come to you anytime, about anything. Teach me to pray without ceasing, to ask boldly, and to trust that you hear me. Quiet my heart to listen for you, and grow my friendship with you through prayer. Amen.
